fun film making

In Te Maunga we have been doing film making and we were in a group of course and every group has 5 people but some groups people are not in school or sick or I don’t know. We get to choose if we want to do an animation or fuming. In my group we learnt how to make our own characters and make them move and the best thing for me to learn is how to write my own script and have funny ideas. And my favorite thing to do was making the slides. The hard thing was making everything smooth.

Pūrākau

In Te Maunga we did a reading about gods and we have to compare between two gods from different countries. I leant that Tangaroa is the father of many sea creatures. Tangaroa's son, Punga, has two children, Ikatere, the ancestor of fish, and Tū-te- wehiwehi, the ancestor of reptiles. Terrified by Tāwhirimātea's onslaught, the fish seek shelter in the sea, and the reptiles in the forests. Ever since, Tangaroa has held a grudge with Tāne Mahuta and Mahuta is the atua ( atua means god) of forests, because he offers refuge to his runaway children by carving on a Māori war canoe. As Tangaroa was the god of the sea, it was important to make offerings to him before setting out for travel or fishing and many more facts. My favorite thing to learn was that during Chinese new year a lot of people wear red clothes and hang up red banners to bring good fortune into their homes and keep bad luck away. because the new year monster doesn’t like the color red or loud sounds and fire. The hard thing was writing my own narrative.

In Te Maunga we had a PAL day but it was the whole school. We played lots of games and we were in groups with other classes. The things we played were red light green light, obstacle course, tug of war, playing soccer with a yoga ball, Rob the nest and many more. The one thing I liked was tug of war. The hard thing was playing soccer with a yoga ball because it was too big.

Earthquakes/Volcanoes

In Te Maunga we did a reading called Earthquakes/Volcanoes and obviously it was about earthquakes, volcanoes and there's a lot of things we need to do.  We learn about why earthquakes happen like: Earthquakes happen because the surface of Earth is called the crust, not one solid piece; it's like a 20 thousands piece puzzle. Earth puzzle pieces are called tectonic plates. The plates can move but they don’t move fast. Earthquakes happen when a plate bumps or drags along another plate. My favourite thing to learn was writing a report and we had to choose earthquakes or volcanoes and I chose earthquakes. The hard thing was answering all the questions.

Shakeout day

In Te Maunga we learned about Shakeout day. Shakeout day is a day that you can practice events like earthquakes and tsunamis. We learned that if an earthquake happens we have to get under the table and you put something on your head. When there is an earthquake alert you should get to the nearest table and go under it and you put something on your head for protection. The hard thing was that it was very hard to put something on your head like a bag because the table was too short and too small.

Olympic Games

In Te Maunga we did a reading about the Olympic Games. We learnt about the differences between the Ancient and Modern Olympic Games like: Before, only one athletic event was even held and now we have around 330 events. My favourite thing to learn was researching about 3 Olympians. The hard thing was creating my own Olympic Games.

Science day

In Te Maunga we have been doing some experiments and we did it in groups. We learnt how to do some experiments like lava lamps and rubber band cars. One thing I learnt was that teamwork makes the dream work. The one thing that I liked was the experiment that my group did because it was water fireworks and the fireworks were very cool to see. The hard thing is that you need to follow the instructions because in the first try my group did the experiment wrong.

Nanogirl

In Te Maunga we did some experiments but the special thing is that Nanogirl is here to show us some experiments. We learnt a lot of experiments like holding fire in your hand and what air looks like. The one thing that I liked was the fire on your hand experiment. The hard thing for the fire experiment is we can’t use fire because we’re kids.

The research for term 3

In Te Maunga we did our first research for term 3 and the research was about anything you want the research about. I learnt about the Red-eared Turtle. The one thing that I like about doing the research because I learnt facts like It says that red eared turtles can easily live longer than 20 years. That's cool right? The one thing that was hard is that we had to make more than 5 slides.

The Matariki reading slides

In Te Maunga we did some reading slides about Matariki, the seven stars. We learnt to write by our own words for the facts about the Matariki. The one thing that I liked about the slides was that we had to make a poster on a Google drawing and a poster on paper. The hard thing for me on the slides was that we needed to rewrite a Matariki Myth and you needed to make your own Matariki Myth.

The Measurements activity

In Te Maunga we have been doing some measurement activities. We learnt how to measure, tell the time, and the temperature by doing the activities. One thing that I liked about the activity is the temperature because you can see how hot the water is. The hard thing is that it is hard to read the temperature on the thermometer because the numbers are very small.

In Te Maunga we have been doing Astronomy. We learnt about the sun, moon and stars and we learnt how to take notes and quotes. One thing I liked about the reading was that we had to do a poster about the moon or the star. The hard thing about Astronomy is that we only have 2 weeks to finish it.

Teamwork

In Te Maunga we have been doing some team building activities. I learnt that you need to do teamwork and talk to your mate to think of a way to do it. My favourite kind of activity is air guitar. The hard thing was it is different and you need to choose the right friend to team up with.
